Critic Reviews for Peaky Blinders Series 5

All Critics (19) | Top Critics (2)

Twenty nine episodes in, Peaky Blinders proves it can still pack a punch.

Again, Paul Anderson as Tommy's bawling, brawling, semi-animal older brother, Arthur, filled the screen every time he appeared, never more so than when being humiliated by his wife.

Aug 27, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

The Season 5 finale is a departure for the show, which generally wraps up with one of Tommy's unlikely, brilliant plans working out precisely the way he'd planned, or close to it.

Oct 14, 2019 | Full Review…

A season that steps into the quicksand of the Great Depression... clearly makes a door-kicking-open return to wonderfully portrayed gangsterism.

Oct 7, 2019 | Full Review…

Never mind the substance, feel the style. Roll on season six and, most likely, seven.

Sep 30, 2019 | Full Review…

This series has seen a much needed return to form, helped by Arthur going back to his mad old, bad old ways and the presence of genuine evil in the character of Oswald Mosely (Sam Claflin, terrific).

Aug 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Peaky Blinders has been one of the best dramas the BBC has produced in recent years and, for all the suspension of disbelief it demands of the viewer, the finale was still brilliantly exhilarating.

Sep 23, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

As much as I hate to say it, the Peaky Blinders finale was a let-down. But perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that the big climax was a bit of a damp squib. The truth is the whole of season five was on the underwhelming side.

Aug 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Peaky Blinders is back and it is still the coolest show on television. Brace yourselves for six weeks of existential dread, revisionist history, stylish visuals and some seriously hammy Brummy accents.

Sep 3, 2019 | Full Review…

The series is undoubtedly stylish, indeed with too many stylistic tics for its own good, but the characters are really nothing more than violent thugs.

Sep 3, 2019 | Full Review…

Many of the show's trademark visual gimmicks are starting to look tired and self-parodic.

Visually stunning and crammed full of compelling performances. Cillian Murphy is simply phenomenal as Thomas Shelby.

liked it alot, just a treat for all the senses, and it needs to be said again that the choice of modern sort of punk music for the series was 100% correct, period music from then wasn't capable of capturing the emotion and energy..

    Another great season!

Season 5 was the most disappointing because of the ending. The show series is outstanding.

I felt like it was some way different from the others seasons, but still an awesome fifth season, the season ended in the best part so mega hyped for next season.

Each season is better than the last! This season, better than any other, beautifully paints the internal battles each character is going through without a word being said. As always, the writing, cinematography, and acting are top notch Must watch!

As usual, I was not disappointed. Again I was inspired to re-vist the past episodes causing me to binge the week-end away. These characters are depicted with 5 star performances. One word GREAT!

No over the top special effects, just amazing acting paired with an amazing story.

Season 5 was a bit slow, and felt very underwhelming with the "plot twists" being predictable and expected.
